A lot of the topics from other classmates’ were very similar to what I researched. I appreciated the posts when it expressed the difficulties we might face as upcoming teachers. It is true that many children, especially the younger ones, might not appreciate technology as much as the older students. Many of the posts also included helpful websites that could possibly aid in the process of becoming a teacher.

I would really love to learn how to actually teach students how to use technology. This class offered a great insight to how teachers will use given technologies, but I’m nervous about how to actually teach the students how to use them. The 8 year-old mind is much different from my 19 year-old mind, so I would appreciate learning how to tap into that brainwave and help them understand how to use technology.

I do not see my future of educational technology being a difficult thing to achieve. If I do come across some issues, I will (hopefully) form a bond with my co-workers and ask them for help or advice. If the school does not have the programs I am looking to teach, I will look at my options in regards to school budget, and how much I could apply to the field.

When I am a teacher, preferably for the 4th grade, I will need to create quizzes for the subjects that I’m teaching. There are great websites for creating quizzes and forming games for the students, such as http://www.proprofs.com/quiz-school/. Another helpful resource is to create crossword puzzles on http://www.crosswordpuzzlegames.com/create.html. That could be used as an extra credit assignment once the student is done with the quiz.

There are great ways to apply the Internet to the classroom. On Ilovethatteachingidea.com, there are helpful tips for teachers and assignment ideas that can be used. There are tons of ideas, from “End of the Year” activities to “ideas for keeping your students in line!”

Excel will come in handy for teachers of any grade. Most use Excel for grade books, but a lot of other ideas for excel include worksheets and quizzes too. Excel is an awesome organization tool. It helps keep tabs on mathematical equations that would be a hassle to manage otherwise.

My PowerPoint 2 project definitely fits in with the requirements from Chapter 8. All of the spelling is correct, and the content is easy to read. The navigation starts with the title and leads to each of the slides. The design is simple and easy to comprehend. The development is also consistent with the main ideas.

Peripherals can be applied when I want to print out something for the students, or take pictures for the presentation. Scanning can also be done when trying to put pictures on a presentation or other information, like charts and graphs. A non-computer audio-visual technology, like a cell phone, can be used to transport information from the phone to the computer.

Using PowerPoint can definitely help when trying to create a presentation for the class, as well as creating a game, such as jeopardy. Learning how to construct my custom jeopardy game will definitely be useful when I am a teacher, and I need to get the students involved in the material.

Using presentation software in the classroom can be a big advantage, as well as a slight disadvantage. Powerpoint is a tool that acts as a visual aid for a teacher’s presentation, and it could definitely help convey most of the information that is present. If you can create a presentation that’ll draw the students in, then presenting with Powerpoint can definitely be an advantage. If the Powerpoint is too drawn out or too vague, it can be distracting to students, and you can lose your audience’s attention. Making a Powerpoint that is “to the point” and effective can be a huge asset in the classroom.

Each dimension requires a different procedure. To remember, I might create a flow chat and include some interesting images. Understanding would require me to present sound and perhaps a video. Applying would involve similar dynamics. The students could work together in groups while analyzing, and they would observe others’ information to evaluate. Then, the students could create a presentation about the lecture.

An issue related to educational technology that caught my interest is the reliability of internet sources. There is just so much false information out there, and how can we know what is real? Wikipedia.com is an example of a popular website that might not always be accurate, yet people often tend to use this as a “reliable” source.

Using Web 2.0 for kids in elementary schools and middle schools can be useful, but also can be difficult to maintain. A lot of the information on Web 2.0 (wikis, blogs, video-sharing sites, etc) can have false information, and using this false information for projects and papers can be really confusing for the students (& the teachers!). As a teacher, I would try to avoid these sites for that reason.

Wikipedia is a main source in the Web 2.0 generation. Overall, I enjoy using Wikipedia for basic things, such as finding information on nutrition, history, etc. Unfortunately, I do not trust Wikipedia enough to use it for major papers and essays. A lot of the information found on Wikipedia is proven to be false and unreliable. As a learning source, I would not trust Wikipedia, especially when a grade is at stake.

Using power point will greatly help me as a teacher. It allows me to give presentations in front of my classroom. With big images and bold text, giving presentations can be a breeze. Also, power point can help relay information to students over the internet, especially if they are not present in class.

The internet is a huge resource for students in any grade. Searching on the web is useful when students need information for a project. Search engines are available, such as www.ajkids.com, www.yahooligans.com, and www.kidsclick.com. Students should be careful though, because the internet is not always as helpful. By using adult search engines, such as google.com, and yahoo.com, kids could get confused, and the teacher could find herself/himself in a complicated mess.

According to Chapter 3, distance learning could be a huge advantage when using the internet. If a child is not available for class for one reason or another, the internet can assist in the child’s learning, so that he/she does not fall too far behind. Even if the students are in class, the internet could be used for television programs and other internet based coursework.

Being a teacher is very exciting for me, but there are certain things that I am nervous about. Children (especially in elementary/middle school) can be rebellious, and they might decide to search something that is not considered appropriate for class. It would definitely be disappointing to have to deal with that, but I should prepare myself regardless!

Outlines, idea maps, and storyboards are a great tool for organizing future projects. These concepts are helpful when trying to map out ideas and themes, especially when it is difficult to find places for these topics. Outlines assist in planning the basic topics. Idea maps follow outlines, and they are used to provide context and interact with content. Storyboards categorize all of the information gathered. Basically, all of these tools are used for ultimate organization. Inspiration and similar programs can be used for all of these techniques.

Encouraging students to use outlines, idea maps, and storyboards can benefit them in multiple ways. Chapter 7 states, “The organization and sophistication of the final project is a reflection of the planning that goes into it.” These planning tools will most likely be useful for my students throughout their entire educational career, so I would highly encourage my students to learn how to utilize these tools. In the work force, a student of mine might have to create a presentation for his/her boss. This is where organization will come in handy!

Learning how to use Inspiration has definitely opened up my eyes to new educational programs. MS Word is a standard program that is used every day, so when I saw Inspiration, a whole new world opened up! This program is the ultimate planning and organizing tool. My future students will definitely be learning how to use this program, because it is highly beneficial when creating new projects.
